Invited this Wednesday on the programme QR le débat on RTBF, Éléonore Simonet, federal Minister for the Middle Classes, Self-Employed and SMEs, reviewed the measures adopted by the government to tackle rising energy costs.
The minister recalled the line defended by the MR since the beginning of the crisis: using the additional revenue generated by VAT on fuel to directly support citizens. This approach is now embodied in an €80 million package aimed at helping workers facing rising travel costs as well as the most vulnerable households.
Éléonore Simonet also stressed the importance of targeted measures, unlike the blanket schemes used during previous crises, which had significantly increased public debt. The goal is clear: to provide effective support without jeopardising budgetary balance.
She also stressed the need not to forget self-employed people and farmers, who are particularly exposed to energy price fluctuations, by including specific measures to support them during this difficult period.
For the MR, this balanced approach shows that it is possible to protect purchasing power while remaining fiscally responsible. A consistent approach: helping those who need it, without passing the bill on to future generations.
