Assault on an elderly person in the Marolles: David Weytsman demands exemplary sanctions.
David Weytsman, president of the CPAS of the City of Brussels and president of MR Brussels/Periphery, condemns with the utmost firmness the assault that occurred in the Marolles neighbourhood, on Rue Terre-Neuve, at the foot of the social housing blocks.
During this assault, an elderly man was strangled and robbed in broad daylight, right next to a children's playground.
"You cannot attack a man of a certain age, who could be all our grandfather, in broad daylight, in a Brussels neighbourhood, without this concerning every one of us. What happened in the Marolles obliges the public authorities to respond firmly," declares David Weytsman.
He offers his full support to the victim and their family. He calls for the perpetrators to be identified, arrested and tried as quickly as possible.
Should the perpetrators benefit from social housing or CPAS assistance, David Weytsman will also demand that all legal procedures allowing for sanctions or exclusion be examined.
"Public solidarity also involves duties. The law-abiding residents and families of the Marolles must not suffer because of a violent minority that is destroying life in the neighbourhood. Social housing and social assistance can never become a refuge for impunity. In Brussels, the MR will always stand on the side of honest residents, families and people who want to live in safety," concludes David Weytsman.
