This Sunday 16 November, Belgium will celebrate the talent and creativity of its craftspeople on the occasion of the 19th edition of Craftsman's Day.
More than 800 craftspeople will welcome the public free of charge into their workshops. This is a record number. For the Minister for the Middle Classes, Self-employed and SMEs, Eléonore SIMONET, this is a unique opportunity for an immersive discovery of these fascinating and varied trades.
Chocolatiers, ceramicists, sculptors, hatmakers, butchers, stylists, carpenters, engravers, liqueur makers, instrument makers and many others will welcome the public to showcase their sometimes centuries-old production techniques, to inspire young people by introducing them to promising careers, and to raise awareness of this living heritage.
“Craftsman's Day is far more than an annual gathering: it is a celebration of the creativity and passion of our craftspeople. By opening the doors of their workshops, they pass on their skills, offer inspiration to younger generations and actively contribute to the dynamism of our economy. Supporting craftsmanship means investing in local jobs and in the economic vitality of our regions.”, stresses Eléonore SIMONET.
The event, organised by the FPS Economy, is reserved for craftspeople holding legal recognition as craftsmen, which certifies the manual, authentic and artisanal nature of their activity.
To date, 2,852 professionals hold this recognition, a number that has been steadily rising since the status was created in 2016.
On Sunday, the Minister will undertake a real “marathon” of meetings with craftspeople. Her programme can be found below.
You or your editorial team are warmly invited to take part in these visits alongside the Minister.
