Insulating buildings is far more than a technical issue. It's a matter for the future. It is the main lever for reducing CO2 emissions in the Brussels-Capital Region, since 60% of direct emissions come from heating buildings, but it is also a lever for cutting households' monthly bills. And the Renolution premiums encourage and support renovation work on buildings within the Brussels Region.
The Renolution premiums were a lifeline for Brussels residents wishing to insulate their homes. As the budget allocated to fund them in 2024 was exhausted, the current Brussels Government announced last July that it would no longer accept new premium applications from 16 August onwards. This situation caused real concern among households counting on this support to finance their work. Citizens were caught off guard by this announcement in the middle of the summer period. This new suspension of premiums on 16 August also left contractors in uncertainty, as order books were put on hold…
For the MR MPs and co-signatories of the draft resolution, Aurélie Czekalski and Aline Godfrin: "In a context of energy transition and the fight against global warming, insulating buildings is a crucial issue. It is the role of public authorities to ensure continuity of support for building renovation, pending the evaluation and adaptation of the various measures to be adopted by the next Government. It is important for our group that the word given be honoured and that a signal be sent to all Brussels residents: 'keep insulating, we support you!'."
The draft resolution was passed unanimously in the Environment Committee. It calls on the Brussels Government to resume processing applications for work carried out in 2024 and to guarantee that Renolution premiums are paid to Brussels residents during 2025. The co-signatories are asking the Government to submit a draft adjustment to the 2024 expenditure budget in order to provide the budgetary means needed to resume processing Renolution premium applications for work whose final invoice was settled by 31 December 2024, under the same conditions as before the suspension.
