On the occasion of the vote on the 2025 federal budget, MR group leader in the Chamber Benoît Piedboeuf strongly reaffirms the reformist line of the Arizona government.
“This budget is not a sum of figures: it is a political imprint, a deliberate choice in favour of responsibility and structural reforms,” he stressed in the plenary session. In a tense budgetary context, structural deficit, high public debt, tax pressure, the MR is calling for a clear direction: a long-term, balanced and forward-looking plan. “Recovery is possible if we have the courage to undertake it collectively. This government has chosen action, not the easy path. ”
Three priorities: reform, invest, take responsibility
The 2025 budget, praised by the European Commission, is built on two-thirds structural reforms and one-third targeted savings. It reflects the MR's determination to restore the sustainability of public finances while preserving recovery. “Without blind austerity, we correct the imbalances. We ensure growth without breaking investment.”
Among the flagship measures: fairer, clearer taxation (reduced VAT for renovation, an end to penalties for good-faith errors), stronger support for the self-employed and SMEs, and ambitious employment reforms. The MR stands by a demanding vision: “Working must always pay more than not working. We are finally moving from words to action, ending lifelong unemployment benefits and improving activation.”
Pensions, health, security: structural reforms
On pensions, the MR defends fairness and sustainability: a bonus for long careers, a more inclusive minimum pension, and modernisation of family schemes. “Our social model must remain protective, but it must once again become mobilising.”
In the healthcare sector, the MR supports a coordinated reform and better allocation of resources: hospital mergers, support for care staff, and streamlining of care. “We want to put the patient back at the centre, while ensuring the viability of our system.”
On core state matters, the budget allocates an extra €250 million for security starting in 2025. “Authority, security and justice can no longer wait. Citizens are demanding clear answers, not procrastination.”
Reforming to prepare for the future
The Mouvement Réformateur also welcomes the strong choices on energy transition, digital investment and national defence. “Governing means choosing. Choosing means acting. This government has chosen change, and this is only the beginning.”
In conclusion, Benoît Piedboeuf issued a call for collective responsibility: “This budget sets a direction. It does not promise everything to everyone, but it puts the country back on track. What citizens expect is not electoral comfort promises, but consistency and courage.”
The MR will continue to champion this reformist ambition at the heart of government action.
