Brussels: More than 300 activists, elected representatives and officials took part on Wednesday evening in the first General Assembly of MR Brussels and Periphery since the regional elections. An evening marked by unity, conviviality and commitment, launching a new stage for the regional federation chaired by David Weytsman.
Around the President, numerous figures of the Mouvement Réformateur were present, illustrating the strength of the movement at every level of government. Among those present were Brussels Minister-President Boris Dilliès, Secretary of State Audrey Henry, federal ministers Bernard Quintin and Eléonor Simonet, the Wallonia-Brussels Federation minister Valérie Glatigny and European Commissioner Hadja Lahbib.
Their joint presence demonstrated the cohesion of the Mouvement Réformateur and the shared will to continue the work undertaken in the various governments and institutions, in the service of Brussels residents and all citizens.
During the evening, David Weytsman presented the main guidelines that will steer MR Brussels and Periphery in the coming years, along with the new organisation of the regional bureau. He reaffirmed his ambition to further strengthen the movement's presence on the ground, to bring forward a new generation of talent, and to build a team ever closer to the realities experienced by Brussels residents.
The General Assembly was also an opportunity to pay heartfelt tribute to several long-standing activists whose commitment, in some cases spanning several decades, has contributed to the development of the Mouvement Réformateur. Many of them were warmly applauded by the whole audience.
A particularly moving moment was the tribute paid to Lucienne Mohin, 95, the doyenne of Brussels liberal activists, who has been active for almost 65 years. A historic figure of the movement, her unwavering commitment was honoured with a long standing ovation, a symbol of the recognition and gratitude of the whole liberal family.
Through the strong mobilisation of its activists and the presence of numerous prominent figures from the Mouvement Réformateur, this first General Assembly since the regional elections marks the starting point of a new momentum for MR Brussels and Periphery, resolutely focused on grassroots work, unity and the political challenges ahead.
