Faced with the threats and attacks confronting SECURAIL officers in several major stations across the country, our Minister of Security and the Interior Bernard Quintin indicated this week in the Chamber that he is in favour of strengthening their equipment, for example by opening up the possibility of equipping them with batons, which is currently not permitted by law.
“Violence against SECURAIL officers is absolutely unacceptable and I condemn it with the utmost firmness. These men and women work every day to protect us,” Minister Quintin emphasises.
These officers must therefore have the material means to defend themselves. As a reminder, Minister Quintin has already created the legal framework allowing railway staff and Securail officers to wear bodycams (body cameras).
At the Minister's initiative, the federal police presence in Brussels's major stations has also been strengthened. Soldiers have also been patrolling there alongside our law enforcement forces for several weeks.
