This morning, speaking to Sudpresse, Selena Carbonero, secretary-general of the FGTB, made shocking remarks, comparing the government's action to a husband “beating his wife”.
We, women and liberal representatives, demand the retraction of these remarks and an apology from the FGTB.
Domestic violence is a scourge in our society and must not be trivialised by the FGTB to illustrate a political attack on a democratic government that is today legitimately implementing a programme for which female voters also voted.
Domestic, sexist and sexual violence are, for liberals, an offence of the utmost gravity against which we all fight, every day, at every level of responsibility, from our CPAS councils to the Federal Government.
Some of our representatives have themselves experienced domestic violence and are outraged to be publicly associated today, through this action, with these destructive assaults, once again trivialised in our society, this time, moreover, by a woman on the left.
Women who are victims of domestic violence deserve more consideration than being used by the FGTB as interview anecdotes. We expect an apology.
