This week, Walloon Minister-President Adrien Dolimont and the Minister for Energy, the Air-Climate Plan and Airports, Cécile Neven, visited TotalEnergies OneTech Belgium.
A visit centred on innovation and the energy transition, at the heart of an internationally renowned research centre.
Located in Wallonia, TotalEnergies OneTech Belgium is one of the group's eight European R&D centres, globally recognised for its expertise in catalysis and polymers. The site employs more than 300 researchers and develops key technologies intended for future industrial deployment, with funding mainly provided from own resources.
A highlight of the visit was the inauguration of a pilot plant for CO₂ valorisation. Based on a high-temperature electro-catalysis process, this technology aims to convert CO₂ and hydrogen into base molecules for producing sustainable synthetic fuels, particularly for aviation and shipping. The project is still at the research stage, but its strategic potential is significant.
This inauguration illustrates the central role of Walloon R&D in preparing tomorrow's energy solutions. Wallonia thus confirms its ability to host international centres of excellence, creating skilled jobs and driving sustainable innovation.
