Launched in 2021 in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, the "Label Adeps Commune Sportive" initiative offers municipalities in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation the opportunity to commit to sport and promote it among their citizens.
An ever-growing level of participation, which delights the Minister-President responsible for sport, Pierre-Yves Jeholet: “Doing sport remains a challenge for some citizens, often due to a lack of information. By promoting the sporting offer available in their area, participating municipalities are an essential link in making sport accessible and thus encouraging physical activity of all kinds, at any age.”
Following the call for applications last October, dozens of files were submitted and a selection process was carried out by the jury of the “Adeps Sports Municipality Label”, made up of representatives of the Union of Walloon Cities and Municipalities, Brulocalis and Adeps.
The municipalities awarded stars meet several criteria necessary for this labelling:
- Pursue a policy of sport development that is accessible to all;
- Showcase their indoor and outdoor sports facilities;
- Encourage the use of sustainable transport to facilitate access to sports sites;
- Encourage sports participation among all categories of citizens, including people with disabilities and socially isolated people.
The 53 municipalities awarded the “Sports Municipality” label in 2024 will receive it from Minister-President Pierre-Yves Jeholet and Walloon Minister for Sport Adrien Dolimont on 18 April at the Municipalia trade fair, and are distributed by province as follows:
