Safety is not built in a day: it is strengthened through concrete decisions, adapted resources and support for those working on the ground. Despite a difficult budgetary context, the Brussels Government, led by Boris Dilliès, took two important decisions this summer to strengthen safety for everyone who lives, works or travels to Brussels.
€69 million for prevention and security
The Global Prevention and Security Plan is the driving force behind safety in Brussels! In concrete terms, it funds the actions carried out every day by police zones, municipalities, prevention services and associations. They all work hand in hand towards a common goal: making our neighbourhoods safer.
On a proposal from Boris Dilliès, the Government decided to maintain a substantial budget of nearly €69 million for this plan.
And because safety is not just about enforcement, this plan allocates €6.9 million to associations working on the ground against homelessness, drugs and addictions, as well as domestic violence.
Strengthening of the SIAMU
Guaranteeing the safety of the people of Brussels also means giving our emergency services the means to carry out their missions under the best possible conditions.
Faced with concerns raised by firefighters about their working conditions and staff shortages, Boris Dilliès chose dialogue, which made it possible to identify concrete solutions.
During a special Council of Ministers, the Government released new resources to sustainably strengthen the SIAMU and approved several measures:
- Accelerating the recruitment of operational staff starting this year;
- Evaluation of the staffing plan to identify future needs;
- Strengthening of the 112 emergency call centre.
These decisions reflect a shared ambition: to build a safer Region by giving those on the ground and the emergency services the means to act effectively on a daily basis.
