This Sunday, 5 January, the Mouvement Réformateur gathered in force in Tournai for a packed congress. The MR is more than ever on the move to tackle tomorrow's challenges with responsibility and dynamism. A look back at the highlights.
The new mayor of Tournai, Marie Christine Marghem, opened the congress with enthusiasm. "We have won back the mayorship!", she declared amid loud applause. The former minister stressed the importance of this renewed momentum: "Now everything begins. Together, we will work to give Tournai a more ambitious, fairer and more reform-minded future."
Denis Ducarme, chairman of the MR's provincial federation and federal MP, made no secret of his pride at a mobilisation he described as "historic". "You have never been so numerous in supporting us in Hainaut. Thank you for your trust. We will keep carrying your voice loud and clear!", he stressed.
Romain Palmeri, chairman of the Jeunes MR of the Hainaut federation, and Emmeline Montreuil, municipal councillor in Beloeil, stressed the importance of young people's involvement in politics. "Young people must take responsibility. Get involved! The MR is a young party, carrying hope and concrete solutions for our future", Emmeline Montreuil insisted. A message that resonates particularly in a context where the MR is working to renew its teams and ideas.
The Minister-President of the Walloon Region, Adrien Dolimont, gave an encouraging overview of the reforms already launched by the Walloon Government in just a few months. "With us, no new tax. We have halved inheritance and gift duties, reduced registration fees and will achieve €268 million in structural savings for 2025", he explained. The Minister-President also highlighted concrete progress in agriculture ("less paperwork, right to administrative error"), early childhood care ("modernising and simplifying childcare"), and public finance management ("ending financial mismanagement in major cities").
To close the congress, MR President Georges-Louis Bouchez's speech received a unanimous ovation. He called for a general mobilisation of all our activists to continue reforming our country. Find his full speech here.
