Asylum and migration

Belgium is a country of human rights, but its laws must be respected.

Asylum and immigration policy must ensure that the rules in force are applied and enforced, while cracking down hard on illegal immigration. Belgium is a country of human rights, but its laws must be respected.

Legal immigration

Pragmatic, matching the country's needs and our commitments to solidarity.

Dignified reception

Asylum applications processed in less than six months.

Effective returns

Orders to leave the territory actually enforced and stronger readmission agreements.

Clear rules, demanding integration

Legal, pragmatic immigration that matches our country's needs and our commitments to solidarity is desirable. Those admitted to our country must show their willingness to integrate: diversity is an asset, but living together requires a common foundation of values.

Dignified reception and fast procedures

Dignified reception of migrants in safe countries bordering their country of origin must become the cornerstone of our new asylum model.

Asylum applications must be processed more quickly, so that people do not settle here for good before being told they have to leave. Every application lodged in Belgium must receive an answer within six months.

Tackling illegal immigration

We must ensure that orders to leave the territory are actually enforced when a decision is negative. We support increasing the number of places in closed centres and creating new ones.

The MR wants to increase the number of readmission agreements with third countries and review the list of safe third countries. We also want the transfer of foreign prisoners to become standard practice, so that they serve their sentence in their country of nationality.
