Housing and urban planning
Buying your home is a life's project.
Decent housing is the basis for working, raising your children and getting ahead. The MR wants decent, affordable housing. To get there, the state must make building easier instead of holding it back.
Registration duties cut from 12.5% to 3% in Wallonia.
Fewer rules and less red tape blocking projects.
Clean, green and attractive neighbourhoods.
Become a homeowner without going broke
Buying your home is a life's project. In Wallonia, we cut registration duties from 12.5% to 3% on the home you live in. We want to keep making home ownership easier, especially for young people. We want fewer taxes and costs when buying, and support to put together the deposit banks require. And you shouldn't have to pay the state every year just to live in your own home.
Too many rules are blocking housing
Today, too many rules and too much paperwork are blocking projects. In Brussels, tens of thousands of families are waiting for social housing. The old renovation grants did not work well: too complicated, too ineffective. And some bans even prevent building on still-vacant plots of more than half a hectare. The result: cities stand still and it is residents who pay the price, with less housing and less security.
Social housing that is maintained and respected
Social housing must no longer be seen as an unconditional, permanent entitlement. It is there to help those who need it get back on their feet, not to trap people in waiting. It must be well managed, well maintained and allocated according to clear, fair rules. For tenants and for landlords alike, we want simple, balanced rules so that everyone comes out ahead.
Responsibility and transparency in public action
The MR stands for town planning that builds, affordable energy renovation through innovative financing mechanisms, and transparent management of public bodies.
Building the city within the city
To preserve our fields and woods, we build first where there are already houses, roads and schools. In practice: we turn derelict sites, oversized half-empty houses and unused upper floors into homes. We avoid building too high or too densely, so neighbourhoods remain pleasant places to live.
Your land is yours, and the rules are the same for everyone
Your land belongs to you. If a new rule reduces its value, you must be able to be compensated. A building permit should not take years, and fewer charges should hold up worthwhile projects. Planning rules apply to everyone, including the administration: if a citizen has to comply, so do the municipality and the Region.
Clean, green and attractive neighbourhoods
A clean neighbourhood, with trees and well-kept parks, is a neighbourhood where people feel good and safe. We want more greenery, supervised parks and clean streets: an end to fly-tipping, tagging and abandoned rubbish, with fines that are actually enforced. We also say no to ugliness: a city must be beautiful, with quality buildings and public spaces.
