Municipalities free to decide

A mayor and their team know their municipality better than anyone. They must be able to count on direct, predictable funding instead of putting together files to secure subsidies. More freedom for municipalities, but also more responsibility: residents will judge on results.

Fewer levels of government, more clarity

Today, it is no longer always clear who decides what. We want every level (municipality, province, Region) to have a clear role, with a single person responsible for each decision. Municipalities that wish to do so must be able to work closer together or merge. With fewer mandates, structures and duplication, public money serves residents.

A transparent CPAS that gets people back on their feet

The CPAS is the safety net for those whose lives are turned upside down. It must help, but also lift everyone up, with guidance towards employment. Its decisions must be public, except those concerning individuals: we must know how the money is spent.

Public money must serve residents, not structures

Problems do not stop at the municipal boundary: crime, transport, services to residents. Yet every municipality and every police zone works on its own. The MR wants structures of the right size to act effectively.
