Stronger support for informal carers

Informal carers receive stronger support, in recognition of the essential role they play for a relative who is ill, elderly, disabled or losing their independence. Benefits increase for unemployed carers, social rights are extended to carers recognised by their health insurance fund, and an exemption request may temporarily be submitted retroactively. For workers, leave is also extended: up to 6 months of full career break for the same person being cared for, 12 months of half-time break and 30 months of one-fifth break, with the minimum period reduced to one week subject to the employer's agreement. A concrete step forward so that everyone can help a loved one without having to choose between family solidarity and income security.

Strengthening degressivity to better protect at the start of unemployment and encourage a return to work

Losing your job must not mean falling straight into insecurity. The first six months of unemployment are better protected, with salary ceilings raised to the level of an average full-time wage and a higher minimum benefit for low earners. After that, the amount gradually decreases as the unemployment period continues, so that a real incentive to return to work remains. The system therefore becomes more protective at the moment when the loss of income is felt most, while rewarding work more.
